Greetings Earthlings

“My blog is a collection of answers people don’t want to hear to questions they didn’t ask.”

~ Sebastyne Young

With the flurry of new readers my freshly pressed post has generated, I thought I’d take a moment to pause and say, “Welcome aboard! Thanks so much for stopping by.”

I started this blog so that friends and family could be kept in the loop about my overseas adventures. When I lived in Mexico, once a week I wrote lengthy email describing the latest happenings. This trip I decided to join the 21st century and write a blog instead.

Over the last few months, every time someone who is not a direct relation has followed my blog or liked a post I’ve felt a small thrill of excitement. Someone who’s not obligated to read my posts is actually reading!

And now I find myself in the slightly odd position of having twice as many ‘strangers’ following than family members. It’s nice to have you all on board. Hopefully you’ll stick around for the ride.

In blatant disregard to every blogging guideline I’ve ever read, I don’t have a regular blogging schedule. I tend to blog whenever something happens that I think is worth recording or whenever inspiration hits me.

This can vary greatly, but when I find myself wandering around drafting blog posts in my head, I know it’s time to sit down in front of the computer.

Whether I’m writing about a travel companion who’s too frail to join me on this trip, my efforts to remain healthy in the face of rice and beans, or the crazy drivers of Tegucigalpa, my main aim here is to document my thoughts, feelings and reactions to living and working in Honduras.

Once I’m back home in Canberra doing my regular 9 to 5 I think re-reading my blog will be a nice, if slightly self-indulgent, way for me to re-live the memories.

Time is flying by. I only have three months left in Honduras before I start my South American backpacking trip with my BFF through Ecuador, Peru, Argentina and Brazil.

I get ridiculously over-excited when I receive comments, so don’t be shy. And if you write a post that you think I might be interested in reading, tell me about it!

I often find I don’t have the time to explore WordPress as much as I would like, so I’m always happy to be pointed in the direction of interesting posts.

I really like the fact that you do not keep a writing schedule…believe me…it gets messed up if you do…! I have not yet managed to read more than three posts from your blog, but I believe I like it and so I will follow you! Do check on my blog whenever you get time, if you have space for poems or thoughts! Thank you!

I think having a schedule is meant to make your blog ‘dependable’ and keep regular readers interested, but I don’t think it’s a process that works for everyone. I struggle to write if I’m not ‘feeling the vibe’.

Thanks for the follow. I’ve followed you back. I can always make time for poems. 🙂
